St Ives

St Ives is a small town in the far west of the county. Though originally a fishing village home to about a thousand fishing families who earned a living catching mackerel, herring and pichards, it has become both a popular holiday destination and an internationally renowned school of art. In the 19th and 20th centuries, painters flocked to St Ives and today St Ives is a major international art centre with the Tates Gallery.

The harbour where fishing boats have been landing their catches for hundreds of years, is the focal point of St Ives and as you may expect the town's restaurants have a fine reputation for the quality and variety of the fish dishes they serve.

This is a place that truly has something for all the family, spend countless hours playing in the golden sands, swimming in the un-characteristically warm sea or surfers can chase the waves along Porthmeor beach. Those who are seeking somewhat more relaxing delights, can explore the historic charm of the granite cottages, the art work in one of St Ives many galleries or explore the towns narrow winding cobbled streets and passages.
